Mission Statement
Habitat for Humanity of Berkeley County is a a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian ministry founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live.
We are an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, an organization founded in 1976 that to date has built more than 500,000 houses, sheltering more than 2 million people worldwide.
Habitat offers a true partnership arrangement by which Berkeley County families with limited income can attain their goal of home ownership. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses
Description
Pick up Driver and and Assistant Drive a truck or van or help pick up driver with daily collections of donations from homes and businesses in Berkeley County. A great way to see Berkeley county and enjoy the outdoors. Assist with directions and the loading and unloading of materials. Moderate to heavy lifting is required. Minimum of one day preferred. Customer Service: In the ReStore sales floor during store hours Meet and greet customers as they arrive at the ReStore Center. Assist with loading materials, finding prices, and locating material availability.
Internet Sales Assistant The ReStore is at the beginning stages of an online sales initiative in order to help Habitat build more homes each year! If you have good writing skills and are comfortable with basic internet research and using a digital camera, we can use your help! The job is largely creating descriptions of special items (mostly books and small collectibles) to post on internet marketplaces such as eBay.
Mr./Ms. Fix-it Repair Volunteers A wobbly leg or scratch can mean the death of an otherwise great donation. With a little attention (repair, refinishing, etc) these items can not only help raise funds for Habitat, they can also be rescued from unnecessarily cluttering our landfills. We're looking for people to help provide some TLC to our furniture and other items that need touch-ups.
Pricing Team/Retail Staff Assistant With donations coming in daily, the back room can get swamped. Armed with a pricing guide and a pricing gun, the team sorts, prices, and sends the donations out to the floor. You never know what's coming in, and you'll be the first to see the incredible stuff that people donate - from basic couches and sinks to jet-skis and church pews!
Recycling Coordinator 3-4 hours a week. Sort, collect, and transport paper, plastic, aluminum, newspaper, cardboard and copper to recycling center once a week
Materials Acquisitions Visit Berkeley County Businesses to form relationships that prove beneficial to both the business and our Habitat Restore. Lots of local business are not aware of opportunities outside of their dumpsters!!
Cashier
Volunteer will greet ReStore customers, answer telephone, and complete cash, check, credit card transactions. We will train the right volunteer!
