Mission Statement

HistoryReference.org is devoted to provide online access to primary source material; the primary focus being newspaper coverage of major, and not so major, events in American history. All access will always be free. Includes an online newspaper archive where visitors are able to read full size newspapers for major events in American history.

We also have 2 outreach programs:

1) Traveling Lincoln assassination museum: 24 running feet of original relics that include newspapers, broadsides, engravings, CDVs, Cabinet photos, sheet music, a diary from a resident of Washington, DC, and more. We take this museum to Civil War musters, other museums, and historical festivals.

2) Presentatiions: Little-Known Facts About the Lincolns and the Civil War; Tad Lincoln (Did you know that Tad was boirn with a cleft palate?); Newspapers as Primary Source materia; and How to Detect Newspaper Reprints. Michigan's connection to John Wilkes Booth, We give these at schools, youth and civic groups, and historical societies.

Description

HistoryReference.org, a 501c(3) organization, offers an extensive Web site primarily focusing how newspapers covered the major, and not so major, events in American history. The two major areas on the site are an extensive reference library, and an Online Newspaper Archive where visitors are able to actually read original newspapers ranging from the early 1700s to the 20th century. There are also over 70 panoramas of historical sites. The site has 3 GB of files.
