Mission Statement

Project Avary's mission is to cultivate a community of support for children whose parents are imprisoned or otherwise involved with the criminal justice system. Project Avary targets the neglected population of children who have not yet entered the cycles of violence and incarceration, and we work with them through young adulthood. Year-round programming gives the children ongoing opportunities to work and play cooperatively within a consistent community of peers and adults; to learn how to manage anger and resolve conflict; and to discover and develop unique personal strengths. Project Avary offers structure, a network of positive relationships with peer and adult mentors, and experiences that promote the resiliency children need to be successful longterm.

Description

In order to support children of incarcerated parents, Project Avary offers Bay Area Outdoor Leadership Retreats & Summer Camp, Nationwide Online Group Mentoring, and our Volunteer Mentor Program. Our program includes repeat opportunities for engagement throughout the year and leadership development. At Project Avary, youth are supported along a journey of growth, with the opportunity to train as paid counselors when they're teenagers. We also offer Family Camp, Family Unity Days and Community "Avary Days."
