Mission Statement

Project Avary's mission is to cultivate a community of support for children whose parents are imprisoned or otherwise involved with the criminal justice system. Avary targets the neglected population of pre-adolescent children who have not yet entered the cycles of violence and incarceration, and we work with them through young adulthood. Year-round programming gives the children ongoing opportunities to work and play cooperatively within a consistent community of peers and adults; to learn how to manage anger and resolve conflict; and to discover and develop unique personal strengths. Avary offers structure, a network of positive relationships, and experiences that promote the resiliency children need to be successful longterm.

Description

In order to support children of incarcerated parents, Project Avary offers Nationwide Online Group Mentoring, Bay Area Outdoor Leadership Retreats & Summer Camp, and our Volunteer Mentor Program. Our program includes repeat opportunities for engagement throughout the year and leadership development. We also offer Family Camp, Family Gatherings and Community "Avary Days."
