Mission Statement

Blue Water Baltimore is a 501(c)3 organization whose purpose is to use community-based restoration, education, and advocacy to achieve clean water in Baltimore's rivers, streams, and harbor, so that citizens of the Baltimore region will enjoy a vibrant natural environment, livable neighborhoods and a healthy, thriving Inner Harbor and Chesapeake Bay.

Description

We began as five separate Baltimore organizations doing something about their neighborhood stream or water body. Although individually successful, we realized that to continue growing and be even more effective, we needed to work together toward our shared mission. Two years ago, we started that process, and on September 8, 2010, the Jones Falls Watershed Association, Herring Run Watershed Association, Gwynns Falls Watershed Association, Baltimore Harbor Watershed Association, and Baltimore Harbor WATERKEEPER legally merged.

Today, we run many programs across Baltimore City and County to help protect and restore our waterways. Come volunteer with us to plant trees, clean up streams, remove invasive plants, install rain gardens, stencil storm drains, care for our nursery, monitor local water quality, and much more.

. I felt proud of myself for spending my Saturday morning giving back to the community. I learned about the college experience and a few ways of managing money from the two students who I worked with in the tree planting, and I learned more about how some of the food waste in my kitchen can contribute to the making of eco-friendly compost that can help in tree planting for others and myself in the future. It was a great opportunity helping to plant trees with Blue Water Baltimore.

Any Association allowing pre-teens to volunteer for making the environment clean& disaster free, will always get a two thumbs up. This give us the opportunity to communicate positively. I finished community service learning hrs. And I wouldn't mind giving up some free time to do something good.
