Mission Statement

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is committed to advancing research to cure pancreatic cancer, support those diagnosed with the disease and to create hope for those afflicted and their friends and families

Description

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network national headquarters is located in Manhattan Beach CA. It is organized into local affiliates. The Chicago Metro is one of those affiliates. All local affiliates are staffed by volunteers, no paid staff.

The Chicago Metro Affiliate contributes to the national mission by organizing fundraising events, performing education and outreach activities, participating in national advocacy activities, and generally raising local awareness.

Our large fundraising event is Purplestride Chicago which is a 5 km walk held annually in the Spring, usually along Chicago's lakefront. The event attracts close to 3000 striders. It raises money and promotes awareness for the national mission.

The affiliate also provides education and outreach services to healthcare professionals and the general public by participating in health fairs and distributing literature about the disease to healthcare professionals and the general public.

The affiliate engages in several awareness events including Purpleligts Chicago, a gathering of participants to remember those who have succumbed to the disease and a news media event in November, pancreatic cancer awareness month, to raise local awareness.

The affiliate participates in advocacy by engaging our U.S. Senators and Representatives to elicit their support and passage of the Pancreatic Cancer Research and Education Act (S.362, H.R. 733) through calls, letters and visits including Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill.
