Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated was founded on November 12, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana by seven young educators: Mary Lou Allison Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Dulin Redford, Bessie Downey Martin and Cubena McClure. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority is a not for proift social and service organization with nearly 100,000 members in over 450 chapters located throughout the world including, the United States, Bermuda, Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Korea and Germany. Sigma's purpose is expressed in its slogan "Greater Service, Greater Progress"
