Mission Statement
Saint Joseph School provides a quality academic and value-based education to the children of Chinatown and the Lower East Side regardless of religion, race or economic status.
Description
Saint Joseph School was founded in 1926 to help Italian immigrants succeed in a new culture with a new language. The school continues this mission today with a new generation of immigrants from Asia. 65% of our population is Asian. 15% is Hispanic and the rest are African American and Caucasian. English and literacy is a major area of focus for the school since many of the students come speaking little or no English. The school provides a second home for many students and family members often rely of the school in understanding immigration forms, finding apartments and generally succeeding in the United States.
