Mission Statement
The RSO's mission is to enrich lives, educate and entertain diverse audiences in western Virginia with the highest quality instrumental and choral concerts, and to enhance traditional performances with innovative programming.
Description
The RSO's mission is to entertain and to educate... And so we strive to develop meaningful ways to share and learn about great music.
Under the baton of Music Director & Conductor David Stewart Wiley, the RSO concert season runs from October through June. The season is comprised of a Masterworks series, Pops Series, as well Regional & Touring Performances and Special Events.
The RYS is an educational offering of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and consists of three ensembles: the Roanoke Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Roanoke Youth Symphony String Ensemble / Chamber Ensemble, and the Roanoke Youth Symphony Flute Ensemble. Ensemble participants draw from 10 school districts across Southwest Virginia and West Virginia, four private schools, and approximately 20% of participants are homeschooled.
