The coastal sand dunes along Linda Mar Beach are among the most dynamic and fragile natural formations relying on our commitment to protecting and preserving them. To signup or for more info: https://www.pacificbeachcoalition.org/next-habitat-restoration-sunday/ Native plants are believed to host up to 400% more insects by mass as a food source than non-native plants. Restoration is vital to a healthy ecosystem and protects the beach, shorebirds, and wildlife. In Pacifica, restoration is critical for preserving habitat for the threatened western snowy plover and coastal bee populations on the Pacific coast. PBC Site Captain Michael Ayala will be leading this weekend's Habitat Restoration. His hands-on skill and inspiring goals of fully eradicating invasive non-native plants while expanding a flourishing native habitat teeming with biodiversity in Pacifica are the inspiration guiding our restoration program. Volunteers of any age can participate in restoration. The team is often joined by members of the Pacifica Shorebird Alliance. Michael is also our treasurer and a member of our Steering Committee.

Let's get rid of the trash but keep the ocean view! The Pacifica Beach Coalition supports a monthly coastal clean up from 9am to 11am, Mussel Rock Beach is a beautiful sandy and rugged stretch of coastline nestled at the Pacifica/Daly City line situated below Mussel Rock Car Park. The area features coastal bluffs with sweeping scenic views. Mussel Rock itself is a rock formation known as stack where a headland is unevenly eroded leaving small islands. It is a popular spot for hang gliders, there are a few walkable paths, though most are steep and can be treacherous. For more details, visit our website: https://www.pacificbeachcoalition.org/next-mussel-rock-beach-cleanup/ To sign up, fill out this form: https://forms.gle/xWHp4xLXcYmajSz6A About the Cleanup: Time: 9am - 11am Where to Meet: At the Mussel Rock carpark located at the lower coastal end of Westline Drive by the second entrance to Allied Waste Transfer Station. Drive north past the junction of Skyline Drive, avoiding the other Westline Drive that goes up a steep hill. Parking: Free parking is available all the time on any of the roads or at the car park at the meet up spot. Follow the signs to the car park so that you do not get lost on the other Westline Drive that ends up above the Transfer Station. Cleanup Areas: The team cleans up the streets, bluffs, car park and park, itself, as well as the beach if the tide is out far enough for our safety. There is the Secret Waterfall nearby that is a good place to clean if you are looking for excitement rappelling down a rope to the bluff and walking down to the beach. Supplies: Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own buckets and reusable gloves. Extra gloves, buckets, and specific tools for this site cleanup will be provided while supplies last. The weather is changeable: make sure to bring extra layers, a hat, sunblock, water, and snacks. COVID-19: Please wear your mask and social distance to keep everyone safe and healthy. Rain may cancel cleanup. If you’ve registered in advance with the Google Form, you’ll receive a cancellation notice. If you have not registered, check our website's calendar for the latest information. Our goal is to get as many Earth Heroes as possible to cleanup a location of their liking and inspiring others, while staying safe and respecting County and State orders. What are the "Street to Beach" cleanups? Simply put, it is a cleanup by yourself or with family and/or housemates following your county's orders for COVID-19. It can be around your neighborhood, at the beach, in a needy area, or anywhere actually. You could even "adopt" a specific location in need and care for it on a regular basis. https://www.pacificbeachcoalition.org/street-beach-cleanups/ Please Note: If you do a cleanup, you are doing it on your own accord and personally accepting any and all risks. Why should we do this? Neighborhood and street cleanups are fun and rewarding outdoor activities for you, your family and friends. Picking up litter from the streets keeps it from flowing into the ocean via our storm drains. We are now finding lots of litter, plastic bags, wrappers, disposable gloves, masks and food containers on our beaches and throughout the neighborhoods. Every single piece collected counts to saving our wildlife and habitats! How can we help? It is very easy! Make sure you have all your supplies ready, and go out! Don’t forget to let us know how much trash you collected so that we can add it to our total. Follow these 4 steps to have a safe and fun cleanup: 1. Go on our website to sign the online waiver 2. Grab your supplies (bucket, gloves, pick up sticks) 3. Download the Clean Swell app to record the trash you got (or more ways to log the trash on our website) 4. Go outside near your home Instructions to get community volunteer hours verified here: https://www.pacificbeachcoalition.org/student-volunteer-hours/ Thank you for caring! Pacific Beach Coalition
