Mission Statement

We, the Franciscan Friars of the Province of Saint Barbara, are a Roman Catholic religious community called and committed to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In the prophetic spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi we work with others to promote justice, peace, care of creation, and reconciliation in our times.

Through our ministries, we strive to serve others - especially the poor and marginalized - in a spirit of prayer and Gospel joy.

Description

Tracing our roots to the arrival of the first Franciscan friars in North America in the early 16 th century, we, the Franciscan friars of the Province of Saint Barbara, have been entrusted with the grace of continuing to make God’s word of love visible by serving in educational settings, retreat centers, parishes, as missionaries around the world, through peace and social justice ministries and wherever we are called.

Today, we are messengers of the Gospel who share the presence of Jesus with others as parish pastors; colleges and universities; retreat and spiritual directors; chaplaincy in hospitals, jails and prisons; nursing and nursing assistance; social workers; community organizers and prayer companions--as well as a variety of other Franciscan ministries and various skilled crafts and trades.
