Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Project "Hope" of Houston provides a support system designed to help "at risk" students attending high schools. We provide volunteer mentors from the community, encourage students to discuss their concerns, achieve goals and graduate. The object of the program is to expose the student to a more productive way of life. Our goal ensure that every "at risk" student at H.I.S.D. schools will have the opportunity to participate and to have a personal mentor. Recruitment is a continuous process so that the supply of mentors will adequately meet the student's needs."Project Hope" (Helping One Person Excel) was created in 1998 when a senior teacher recognized a need for student counseling to help with domestic crisis, substance abuse, peer pressures, truancy, and other issues hindering a student's performance at school. Thus the program serves" at risk" students attending H.I.S.D. high schools by bringing in volunteer mentors and speakers from the community to meet with and encourage students.
Mentor: an experienced and trusted counselor. A mentor is a role model who can share their experiences and have a positive influence on a younger person. In the case of students at Lee High School, this could mean helping a student graduate and to embark on a rewarding career and a healthy and fulfilling life.We understand that your life is full already, but if you feel you can spare one hour around lunch time each week to make a difference in a students life, the benefits are far-reaching and deeply rewarding.
