Mission Statement
Opportunity Knocks is dedicated to providing opportunities and resources for individuals with developmental disabilities so that they may pursue their educational, occupational and social interests.
Opportunity Knocks envisions a community where individuals with developmental disabilities have an active and supported presence. The people we serve are Warriors. It is our belief that their place in the community is valuable and necessary.
Through OK's socially interactive programming, OK will place an emphasis on self-advocacy. The goal is to enrich the life of the participant and in turn give the Warriors an opportunity to enrich the fabric of the community. OK's Warriors will be encouraged to address ussues such as health, safety, social interaction, recreation, education, community service, employment and residential living.
As a community organization, OK's goal is to create an ever-expanding partnership with the community. Only through a diversity of alliances with other organizations will this vision take full shape.
Description
Opportunity Knocks holds 8 program sessions througout the year, 2 sessions each season. Programs are typically scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the River Forest Community Center from 3:30 PM until 6:30 PM. During the summer sessions, programs are held on Thursday instead of Friday. For specific dates, please view the programs and special events calendar.
Programming is designed to promote self-advocacy throughout the lifespan, to provide an outlet for the pursuit of personal interests and create opportunities for social interaction and community involvement.
