Mission Statement

The mission of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Community Safety Volunteer program is to provide an opportunity for citizens to partner with the Sheriff's Office and support the efforts of sworn and civilian personnel. The active participation of citizens in support of law enforcement activities increases the quality of life for those living and working in Douglas County, provides better service to the community, fosters close working relationships between law enforcement personnel and all citizens, and provides an avenue for citizens to learn more about the community's needs and resources.

Description

The Community Safety Volunteer (CSV) Program is a citizen based program that allows residents of Douglas County the ability to volunteer within their community in areas that are law enforcement related that do not require a sworn officer.

CSVs assist the Sheriff’s Office and their community in a variety of different areas to include assistance with Patrol, Investigations, Detentions, and Community Resources.

The Community Safety Volunteer program is unlike most volunteer programs, allowing its volunteers to actively participate in a wide variety of areas in law enforcement that historically were unavailable to its volunteers.

Volunteers are required to attend a 10-week Community Safety Volunteer Academy. Patrol functions, self defense, report writing, radio procedures, geography and defensive driving are just some of the many activities taught. After graduation, each volunteer must complete a 50 hour "ride-along" training program. A sixteen hour per month commitment is required after training.
