Neighborhood Service Organization is a diverse human service agency that compassionately reaches out to people, empowering them to improve their lives.

Description

NSO is Neighborhood Service Organization, a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a mission to be "Always Within Reach" for Metro Detroit’s most vulnerable citizens.

NSO has been serving the Detroit community for more than 55 years with innovative services to meet the needs of the people who are most vulnerable. Some of our services are location-based, serving neighbors who come to us for help. Other services focus on outreach, traveling out into the community, reaching people wherever they are. Still other services are offered statewide through out help lines. Through these service, NSO is always within reach to help individuals, families and the community rise to meet the challenges they face.

Programs & Services:

Addiction Treatment Services offers an array of drug-free, substance abuse prevention and treatment programs for individuals and families.

Gambling Treatment Program operates Michigan’s statewide Problem Gambling help line and provides therapeutic services to compulsive gamblers and their families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Harper-Gratiot Multi-Service Center is located on the Eastside near I-94 and Harper Avenue and offers a range of services to its neighbors in one convenient location.

Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters is a home-based preschool program that helps parents get their children ready for success in kindergarten.

The Road Home is a unique mobile outreach program that quickly and compassionately makes direct contact with homeless individuals who are living on the streets of Detroit

Tumaini Center is a crisis support center that provides a wide range of services for homeless individuals.

Life Choices provides support for children and adults with developmental disabilities and their extended families.

Older Adult Services is a nationally recognized mental health program for adults, and one of the oldest and largest mental health and aging programs in the state.

Training Services provides high-quality education and training for health care professionals, counseling professionals and the general public.

Youth Initiatives Project encourages middle and high school age students to engage in activism as a means of improving their community

NSO staffs six different help lines through its Emergency Telephone Service/Suicide Prevention Center. Caring professionals offer counseling for individuals experiencing mental health, substance abuse or other interpersonal problems 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
