Vision

The Tacoma Youth Marine Center is a youth-oriented facility on the Thea Foss Waterway providing a safe place for training youth about boating and our local marine environment-- a place where our youth can touch the Sound.

Mission

It is the mission of the Tacoma Youth Marine Center to provide an opportunity for all youth of Tacoma/Pierce County to experience quality maritime skills training that also teaches solid values, effective leadership and teamwork, and concern of the environment. The Tacoma Youth Marine Center (TYMC) provides a place for marine-related training programs for young men and women. It is a place to develop skills and confidence through training in leadership, citizenship, and personal fitness that instills strength of character and positive life values.

This will take place in a safe, drug free environment that teaches youth:

  • Life skills
  • Discipline
  • Self-esteem
  • Self-reliance
  • Problem solving

The skills through whichpersonal and team success is achieved.

Description

The Foundation operates the Youth Marine Center which has
boating, sailing programs and provides a place for the Sea Scouts and their
boats.

The operations are in a facility leased from the Port of
Tacoma. There are two "C" corporations at the site, one which does
boat repair and one selling fuel.

Operating with various partners the Foundation has various
programs. A partnership with Tacoma schools will provide maritime trades
training for High School students, and a partnership with Metro parks provides
small boat training, a partnership with the Tacoma Seaport provides Middle and
High School water science training.
