Mission Statement

The Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestral Association's Mission Statement is to:

Expose new generations to the joys of fine classical music,

Maintain a low ticket price to allow all in the community to hear a full symphony orchestra perform in a large acoustically excellent venue,

Provide an opportunity for young talented musicians to perform in front of a full symphony orchestra through an annual youth competition,

Create a place where both younger and older non-professional musicians can rehearse and perform with seasoned professionals under the direction of a professional conductor,

Offer traditional, contemporary, operatic and pop musical selections to advance musical knowledge and appreciation.

Description

The Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestral Association is the parent organization for the Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra.

The Orchestra performs four to five concerts each season and is currently celebrating its 50th year.

Each year the Orchestra performs children's concerts for third-graders in the Skokie area - exposing young people to orchestral music, for often the first time in their lives.

The Annual Young Artists' Competition draws young performers from major music schools across the country, as well as advanced high school performers. The competition results in several financial awards; and the top two finishers perform with the Orchestra during the subsequent year's concert season.
