Virtual Opportunity
The JCA Heyman Interages(r) Center intergenerational programs have brought children and older adults together for 30 years. Are you 50+? We are seeking volunteers for a number of opportunities including virtual tutoring in schools and with families, dialogues between the ages, book clubs, art, and music appreciation programming, pen pal letter, and art exchanges. More as well. All volunteering at this time is virtual. Experience with Zoom is needed. We also offer Zoom training. AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program of JCA Heyman Interages The AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) provides social and academic support to elementary children to promote school readiness. Foster Grandparents work one-on-one with children in their classrooms at least 20 hours a week for an entire school year. Among other activities, Foster Grandparents provide and reinforce values to children in a smaller classroom group. At the moment, Foster Grandparents will provide support in local elementary schools and other host sites throughout Montgomery County. Facilitated by JCA Heyman Interages. Requirements: you are at least 55 years of age you are either a U.S. citizen or a green card holder you are at or below 400% income level which is $54,360/yr per single adult. Those who meet certain income guidelines receive a stipend of $3.15/hour you can commit to at least 20 hours per week for a full school year of volunteering All FGP volunteers receive training, accident and liability insurance, meals on duty, and transportation reimbursement. High school and/or college students will help facilitate the Read Across Generations, an intergenerational summer reading program at (one of) five Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) locations from July 10 to August 18, 2023. One student needed at: Aspen Hill Library, Long Branch Library, or White Oak Library. Preferably two students needed at Gaithersburg Library or Wheaton Library due to more foot traffic at those MCPL sites. This is a 6-week commitment where students will: Receive training from the librarian at the MCPL site of their choice. Talk to parents and guardians at their assigned library to pair their child(ren) with an Interages volunteer reader. Record information about the child, such as their name, age, and ZIP code, on a sign-in sheet provided by Interages. Help students choose a book to read. Be supervised by the librarian at your designated MCPL site. Have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with their designated MCPL site. Receive Student Service Learning (SSL) hours, if requested. See below for dates and times. To be clear, you will volunteer for 2 hours, once a week at one library location. VillageRides is recruiting volunteer drivers to provide safe rides for seniors and adults with disabilities who can no longer drive themselves to non-COVID-19 related medical appointments, grocery store/pharmacy pick ups or other essential errands in their neighborhoods .
