Mission Statement

Partner for Surgery (Companero en Salud)was founded in 2001 to:

Serve as a bridge between patients in need of surgical care in remote communities and the international volunteer triage and surgical teams that come to Guatemala to help the impoverished;

Educate and empower rural Guatemalans to initiate and advocate for vital health care services on their own behalf.

Description

Partner for Surgery (PfS), a US-based 501(c)3 not-for-profit, and its Guatemalan sister organization Companero en Salud (CenS), provide for critically needed medical and surgical services to rural Guatemalans. PfS/CenS Programs at a Glance (annual statistics): ? Outreach to the poorest communities where there is little if any medical care and where surgery is critically needed but unavailable ? 30+ local representatives with deep and trusted community ties ? Radio program empowering youth and building awareness of PfS/CenS services ? 25 community "clinics" ? 3000 patient consults ? 2000 cervical cancer screenings ? 100 cryo treatments for cervical dysplasia (precancerous growths) ? 600+ surgeries performed by world-class partnering surgical teams Assistance to medical and surgical patients and their families including: ? surgical referring and scheduling ? round-trip transportation ? interpretation and translation between indigenous languages, Spanish and English ? 6000+ days of sheltering and feeding ? education ? a caring touch ? hope and dignity
