Visitors Center Key Personnel

The Visitors Center is the greeting point for visitors to our Historic Landmark. The staff greets and registers guests, establishes tours for them, discusses the history of the Mill, explains membership and volunteer opportunities. Additionally handles transactions for purchases of items in the Center using our register system. Essentially the first face if the Mill. During the Season from the 2nd Saturday in April to 2nd Saturday in December the shifts are typically: Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This is a multifaceted opportunity. Marketing -- Developing for Marketing Plan to promote this National Historic Landmark. Develop a strategic plan and define tactical milestones. Tour Guide

Purpose of tour guide position: Help visitors understand and appreciate the uniqueness of The Mill at Anselma, a National Historic Landmark, by guiding them through the site and promoting an enriching experience. Reports to: Volunteer Tour Guide Coordinator Primary Responsibilities and Requirements of a Mill at Anselma tour guide: -Be organized, prepared, friendly, punctual, approachable and patient. -Training is required through an assigned mentor and to also shadow an experienced tour guide. Must be able to use online sources for training and for signing up to volunteer at the Mill. -Prepare to interpret the Mill from 1747 - present, hi-lighting various owner families of the Mill, technology and history. Tours can include The Mill, Miller’s House, Post Office, Springhouse and grounds/waterways/trails -Give tours on site to groups when mill is open and give a positive experience to visitors. Be prepared to give tours to all age groups, including school groups, area clubs and special events - these may happen during the week and/or evenings. Tour guides agree to wear a shirt with the Mill logo and Mill name tag when giving tours. -Agree to attend Mill Volunteer Meetings.

Mission Statement

The Mill at Anselma Preservation and Educational Trust is dedicated to restoring and preserving the mill and its equipment together with other buildings on the site, and interpreting the everyday life of the village at Anselma. This completely intact and extremely rare historic resource demonstrates the evolution of technology, and the impact of changes in free enterprise, commerce and transportation over three centuries of American life. Visitors to the mill will discover a variety of choices for integrating continued technological change in modern life.

Description

The c. 1747 Mill at Anselma is a nationally significant water-powered grist mill which ground grain over the period of three centuries. Recently restored, the grist mill is fully operational and offers tours and demonstrations to visitors.

Please note every volunteer is required to undergo background checks before working as a volunteer.
