Description

The Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum properties include five historic buildings of Samuel Clemens' childhood that were the inspiration for his famous books, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and two interactive museums that house unique Clemens family artifacts, and 15 original Norman Rockwell paintings. The Home is a registered National Historic Landmark.
Voted a "15 Best Small-Town Museum in the U.S." by Fodor's Travel, a "10 Best Missouri Attraction" by USA Today, and a "Top 10 Museum of the West" by True West Magazine. The Museum provides educational workshops for teachers, live performances, period classrooms, book talks, and free community programs. Host to the Clemens Conference and welcomes hundreds of school groups each year who visit the museum properties to learn more about Mark Twain and the town that inspired him. Interpretations not only educate visitors about Mark Twain and Hannibal, but also to childhood, pharmacy and the medical practice in the 1800's, and Twain's father's profession as a Justice of the Peace. The Friends of the Museum volunteer organization provides invaluable support within The Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum. Volunteers assist with programs, maintain gardens, plan events, catalog artifacts, greet tourists, bake, serve as docents, and work in the museum's gift shops or admissions desks. Our volunteers have a wide range of skills, interests and amount of time that they can give.
