Mission Statement

The Waukee Area Arts Council is a not-for-profit organization
dedicated to enhancing the quality of life
through the fine arts
in the western suburbs of Des Moines
and the surrounding area.

Description

The Waukee Area Arts Council is a non-profit group that has been bringing art to the western side of the Des Moines metro area since 2004. Some events we have been providing for the local community are: Jazz in July on the Waukee Triangle, Tuesdays on the Triangle, the Imagine...Create...Experience tent at Waukee Fest, summer art classes, "Home Grown Talent" music performances by local artists, and Art on the Road - bus trips to experience art a little farther afield. When artists and performers travel from farther away we try to coordinate with the Waukee School district to provide a learning experience for the students by arranging for the artist to spend time at one or more of the schools, with students in a related curriculum. This program is called "Face to Face with the Arts". Another student involved activity has been Students on Stage, which gives students an opportunity to take to the stage and perform material that they have created, which has included skits, poetry readings, and drama. Waukee Area Arts Council has also been a local sponsor of Poetry Out Loud and The Big Read. The Waukee Area Arts Council makes it home at ArtsCentral, near the Triangle in Waukee.
