Mission Statement

The Trust's mission is to accomplish its vision of engaging, informing and inspiring people to learn about the culture and history of Santa Barbara as they relate to the city, the county, and the state, through hisotical research, archaeology, and preservation, reconstruction and restoration, educational public programs, events and exhibits, and community involvement.

Description

Since its incorporation as a non-profit organization in 1963, the primary long-range goal of the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation has been the reconstruction of El Presidio de Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara's 18th century birthplace. About the size of a city block in the center of town, El Presidio is a living history site interpreting the Spanish, Mexican, and Native American heritage of Santa Barbara for students, the local community, and visitors from all over the world.
