Believing that all people in our community should be able to meet their basic hunger needs and that we are called to share our resources, Loaves & Fishes' mission is to provide groceries and support to people in crisis.

Description

Loaves & Fishes is a nonprofit emergency food program which provides a week's worth of groceries to people in crisis in Charlotte Mecklenburg. Loaves & Fishes began in 1975 by a handful of people in our community who recognized the growing hunger needs of people in our area and opened a single food pantry to address those needs. In 1975, Loaves & Fishes fed approximately 1,000 people. Over 29 years, Loaves & Fishes has grown to a network of 16 pantries and four mini-pantries located throughout Mecklenburg County. Loaves & Fishes served over 66,000 people in 2003.
