Shauri Yako Community Youth Support Centre

The Shauri Yako Community Youth Support Centre works to provide opportunities for under privleged children, youth and women living in the Shauri Yako slum, near Nyeri, Kenya. The centre offers a wide range of programs, including: Mama Mugo's Children's Home, which houses school age orphans; support to send a number of children and youth to primary and secondary school; a feeding program for youth living on the street; a football league for community youth; AIDS/HIV awareness programs; community health education; a women's support group; urban agriculture and a new skills training program. The organization was founded by members of the community and most of the volunteers and staff grew up in the community. Our overhead costs are kept very low and most funds received go directly to our programs.
