Mission Statement
The Washington Child Vision Project is an AmeriCorps project helping to improve access to Vision Services to foster children in the Yakima Valley.
Description
Many children in our valley have undiagnosed vision problems. How can we expect them to succeed at life when they can’t even see the pages in front of them? Vision problems are no one’s fault, but allowing them to go undiagnosed and untreated can start snowballing into not only serious medical conditions, but illiteracy, low self-esteem, and decreased opportunities for youth.
We are trying to coordinate a network of volunteers that are idealistic people who understand that in order to honestly give every child a chance to succeed, we have to give them the chance to see. Through volunteering with our project, we can expand awareness about undiagnosed vision problems throughout our community and across the country.
