Mission Statement
The Metropolitan State University clinic is aimed to address the dental needs of individuals with difficulty accessing dental care, and also supports the education of our Masters of Science Advanced Dental Therapy students. This is a new mid-level practitioner in dentistry created in the 2009 Legislative Session, whose role is parallel to the nurse practitioner in medicine. These graduate students are concurrently licensed dental hygienists with a working background in dentistry.
Description
Our students are able to perform services including fillings (silver and white), stainless steel crowns, and non-bony extractions. These services are fully supervised by Minnesota licensed dentists.
Legislation that created dental therapy in Minnesota specifically intended these practitioners to increase oral healthcare for those who are low-income and underserved. Thus, we accept patients without insurance, and request that patients bring in proof of income.
