WHAT: Sort clothing and other donations at the Midnight Mission to help clothe and bring dignity to people experiencing homelessness. ABOUT THE MIDNIGHT MISSION: Founded in 1914, The Midnight Mission offers paths to self-sufficiency to men, women and children who have lost direction. Our emergency services and 12-step recovery, family living, job training, education and workforce development programs offer a compassionate bridge to achieve and maintain healthy, productive lives. VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES: You will sort items (clothing and more) that have been donated to the Midnight Mission to ensure they are appropriate and of good quality. The Midnight Mission is fortunatee to receive a large number of in-kind donations, but they need your help preparing them for the people they serve. IMPACT: These donations will be given to Midnight Mission's clients as well as local Skid Row residents. Access to clean clothing is essential to the overall well-being of a person and can be the key to opening doors to humanizing our unhoused community. These essential items help our unhoused community with the resources to look for employment and establish their self-worth. REQUIREMENTS: Comfortable being on your feet and mobile for the duration of the opportunity. Comfortable carrying the equivalent of a load of laundry. Complete Midnight Mission's online waiver Wear t-shirts, closed-toe shoes, hair tied back. No dangly jewelery, tank tops, open toed shoes, skirts, or dresses. If under 18, you must be accompanied by an adult at least 4'6" tall have a legal guardian complete this youth waiver in advance SPECIAL SAFETY PROCEDURES DURING COVID-19: You must provide proof of full vaccination, including the first booster shot not be experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms wear a mask while on site QUESTIONS? WHAT : Read books, do crafts, and get active with the kids at Midnight Mission's Homelight Family Living Program. ABOUT MIDNIGHT MISSION: Midnight Mission offers a bridge to self-sufficiency for homeless people through counseling, education, training and job placement. Midnight Mission's Homelight Family Living Program goes beyond emergency care by providing long-term solutions for families - highlighting the structure, accountability, and opportunity. VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES: The children at Midnight Mission's Homelight Family Living Program in Inglewood look forward to every Tuesday night when you spend time with them playing games, doing arts and crafts projects (from Play-Doh to rockets), reading books, and just having fun while their parents attend classes and counseling sessions. The seemingly simple act of interacting with the children is a highlight of their day and can be of yours too! IMPACT: Your support of The Midnight Mission helps to provide a path to self-sufficiency for men, women and children who have lost direction. Our volunteers make it possible to deliver the life-changing services that people experiencing homelessness so badly need. We always appreciate those willing to volunteer their time with us, and your support helps to provide a path to self-sufficiency for men, women, and children who have lost direction. REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers must show proof of vaccination to participate or a negative COVID test taken within 24 hours. Mask wearing will be required at all times Volunteers aged 6-13 must be accompanied by an adult family member. This adult family member must sign up as a "Team" below and include the minor as a team member. Any volunteer under 18 must bring and have signed by a parent/guardian this Volunteer Agreement & Release for Minors. Alone-time with the kids is not allowed.
