VORTEX Repertory Company Mission to create new, innovative performances, including original works, new plays, revitalized classics, and to present nationally-recognized, cutting-edge touring artists. to nurture the talents of VORTEX Repertory Company artists. to enhance the public's understanding of the value of live performance. to foster educational programming, including the free Summer Youth Theatre as well as professional productions especially accessable to Central Texas High School students. to generate new audiences through outreach to special constituencies including residents in historically underserved East Austin, lesbian/gay audiences, seniors, teenagers, students, and persons with disablilities including HIV/AIDS. to manage The VORTEX, a full-time performance facility, a home for the arts in East Austin.

Description

VORTEX Repertory Company was incorporated in October 1988 to create innovative productions of original work. In its first year, VORTEX presented five productions at Mexic-Arte Multicultural Museum. Since 1990, VORTEX has operated performance venues in Austin. VORTEX now owns its own facilty, The Vortex, (formerly Planet Theatre), a home for the arts in East Austin. VORTEX continues to renovate the facility, providing an intimate venue for VORTEX as well as many other theatre companies, musicians, dancers, and performance artists.
