Mission Statement

The Sinai Mentoring Program is dedicated to providing the youth of the North and South Lawndale areas with the academic and social enrichment experiences needed to succeed in a challenging and diverse environment. The goal of the program is to pair elementary school students from the area with caring adults, professional and collegiate, who will encourage the development of the students through guidance, counseling, and friendship.

Description

The Sinai Mentoring Program targets elementary school students from the North and South Lawndale communities. These students are exposed daily to factors in their environment that could hinder their success as students and as members of the Chicago community. The support of a mentor would offer these young members of the community the friendship and encouragement of a positive role model. The goal of the mentors is to help students develop effective decision-making strategies that enable them to make healthy choices for their futures. The opportunity to form meaningful connections with an adult role model provides students with open and reliable access to academic assistance, career exploration opportunities, emotional support, new social experiences, and links to resources that will help them realize and achieve their goals.
