Reach out. Become a mentor in Covington. The Covington Mentoring Program at Holmes Middle and High schools matches adult volunteers with students in grades 6 through 10. Mentors in community- based mentoring meet with students for two hours a week after school, in the evenings, or on the weekends for at least a year. Mentors listen, support, and encourage local youth. Requirements include a one-year commitment, background and driver's check every year. Community mentors undergo one-on-one training before meeting with a student. A program coordinator is available for on going support.

Become a Buddy! Lunch Buddy Spend 30 minutes each week during the school year with an elementary school student during their lunchtime. Mentors can share stories, play games, or just enjoy lunch with friends. All mentors are provided with a week-to-week guide of optional activities and conversation starters. A mentor coordinator is available to help or answer questions at any time. Lunch Buddies is conveniently offered at all Covington elementary schools. For adults, 18 years and older. After -School Buddy Spend 30-60 minutes each week with an elementary school student after school (between 3:00 and 6:00pm). This program is especially flexible and will work around schedules, as mentors can vary the time they show up each week. Mentors can share stories, play games, participate in after-school programming with their mentee, and more! All mentors are provided with a week-to-week guide of optional activities and conversation starters. A mentor coordinator is available to help or answer questions at any time. The After-School Buddy program is offered at all Covington Elementary Schools. For adults, 18 years and older.

Mentors meet with students once a week during the school day (8 a.m. - 3 p.m.) for a year. Mentors listen, support, befriend, and encourage local youth. Students with mentors often show improvements in school attendance, academic achievement, and behavior. A one-year commitment is required. Background checks are required of all volunteers. One-on-one training is provided with a program coordinator before volunteer starts to meet with student. On-site program coordinator is available for on going support.

Become a Lunch Buddy for a Spanish Speaking Student! Our Latino students have a number of unique hurdles to face in their education path, not to mention the family struggles and fears they're dealing with at home. We're looking for some professionals or college students who speak Spanish to spend 30 minutes a week with one of our Latino elementary students during their lunchtime. Lunch times are typically between 11:15 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Mentors can share stories, play games, or just hang out over lunch. All mentors are provided with a week-to-week guide of optional activities and conversation starters. A mentor coordinator is available to help or answer questions at any time. In an effort to be flexible with volunteers, mentors can choose the day they visit and it can vary week-to-week if needed.
