Title: Digital and Print Creative, Volunteer Location: Hybrid GiGi’s Playhouse NYC 106 W 117th Street New York, NY 10026 Hours: 5-7 hours per week GiGi’s Playhouse NYC GiGi’s Playhouse NYC is the only organization in New York City solely dedicated to the development of individuals with Down syndrome of all ages, from birth through adulthood and at every phase of life. We provide therapeutic, educational, social, and creative arts programs and events year-round, at no cost to participants or their families. Job Summary Seeking an innovative and dedicated creative to join our marketing team. Help us to engage our community and donors through visual materials, both digital and print. The individual in this role would collaborate with multiple groups and our board within the organization to help promote our programs, events, Annual Gala, and other activities. Major Responsibilities Include Developing concepts, graphics, and layouts for marketing materials - both print and online. Liaising with 3 rd partner vendors, volunteers, and freelancers to ensure deadlines are met and material is delivered on top ad to the highest quality. Working with other members of the Marketing Team; help concept and develop the visual identity and/or compelling language for various campaigns and events. Design a variety of creative assets across emails, social images and print material. Projects will include Annual events (Fashion Show, World Down syndrome day, Giving Tuesday) our Annual Report, social campaigns and the announcements of programs, guests, special events, and more! Qualifications Creative designer (must have portfolio or samples of print and digital work). Creative writer is a plus. Can clearly and succinctly convey ideas and information in a variety of communication styles and format. Assist in the process of visual creation and development including, layouts, images, typography, graphics, color, and design sensibilities. Proficient in Adobe Suites. Must understand the nuances, requirements, best practices, and audience for social media platform. Creative, collaborative, problem-solving, open-minded. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with key stakeholders. Must commit a minimum of 9 months to receive benefits. About GiGi’s NYC One-to-One Literacy Tutoring Program: The GiGi's NYC One-to-One Literacy Tutoring Program uses a methodology with documented success based on research by professionals in the field. The ability to read opens doors for individuals with Down syndrome in the workplace, schools and the community. Developing reading skills also leads to improvements in speech and language development, auditory perceptual skills and working memory function. Our goal is to foster a love for reading and provide an opportunity to develop and master skills, all while building a positive relationship with our volunteer tutors. Trained tutors work at the level of the child, continually challenging and encouraging him/her to reach their fullest potential. Students can start in our program as early as age 3 or any year after that. It's never too late to start! Weekly lessons last 45-60 minutes for 10-15 weeks at a time. Family members attend each tutoring session and leave with practical activities to continue the learning at home. Volunteer Role Summary: GiGi’s NYC is currently seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual to join our team ASAP! This position will be primarily virtual, with some in-person meetings. Our semesters will run according to the following schedule: Spring Session: February - May (15 weeks) Summer Session: June - August (10 weeks) Fall Session: September - December (15 weeks) Major Duties Include: Attend trainings with our national office as well as GiGi’s NYC staff and volunteers Assist the Literacy Coordinator with recruiting and training tutor volunteers Assist the Literacy Coordinator with matching students and tutors based on mutual availability and student needs Assist the Literacy Coordinator with ongoing oversight of tutors and students, attend tutor & student tutoring sessions, and facilitate meetings Assist the Literacy Coordinator with the set up Microsoft Teams at the start of each semester with necessary tutor and student info and trainings; ensure all tutors are regularly tracking student progress throughout the semester Assist with trouble shooting any IT issues with Microsoft Teams Qualifications: Must be 18+ Previous tutoring experience Previous experience in a leadership or teaching role Strong background in Literacy Knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially SharePoint and Microsoft Teams, or willingness to learn Strong communication and interpersonal skills Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with key stakeholders Disposition to interact directly with individuals with Down syndrome and their families Able to regularly correspond via email with staff, volunteers and families via GiGi’s email account Willing to undergo a background check General Requirements: All staff and volunteers are expected to be committed to the mission and values of GiGi’s Playhouse NYC, communicate authentic sensitivity to and an understanding of the Down syndrome community, have a sense of humor, and possess a willingness and ability to thrive within a unique work environment.
