The National Book Foundation believes that literature is a vital part of American culture. Our mission is to celebrate the best of American literature, to expand its audience, and to enhance the cultural value of good writing in America.

Description

In addition to presenting the prestigious National Book Awards, the organization does the following:

encourage middle-school students to become lifelong readers through our educational program

partner with cultural institutions all across the country to present diverse public programs

highlight and celebrate emerging fiction writers.
