Volunteers play a vital role in fostering trust, dignity, and connection-ensuring that all residents can age in place safely and with support. Help build community and support housing retention. This volunteer role supports weekly gatherings and one-on-one assistance to help residents maintain benefits, connect with others, and access essential services. Key Responsibilities: Support "Coffee and Conversation" programming- a weekly onsite event that promotes connection and builds trust among residents Provide digital literacy and benefit access support (OHP, SNAP, rent portals, etc.) Assist eviction prevention efforts by supporting outreach and engagement Location: Alder House | 523 SW 13th Ave Impact: Your presence helps reduce eviction risk and increases resident confidence in navigating systems-fostering stability and belonging in their homes. Ideal for: Social work or human services professionals, students and advocates looking to gain hands-on experience in resident-centered care. Join CfPA’s fight against hunger and food insecurity in Portland! There is an urgent need for volunteers to help sustain our food security programs and get nutritious food in the hands of folks who need it. Our Enhanced Resident Services (ERS) team needs assistance to transport and distribute donated food on a weekly and monthly basis to low-income resident buildings that we support. Volunteer drivers are needed for: Helen Swindells Community Pantry - 4th Thursday of each month Location: 10 NW Broadway Main responsibilities: Transport multiple boxes of food from the senior center and distribute to residents in the main building lobby Time commitment: 11:00am - 1:00pm; once per month Alder House Community Pantry - 4th Thursday of each month Position #1 Location: 523 SW 13th Ave Main responsibilities: Transport multiple boxes of food from the senior center and drop off at Alder House Time commitment: 11:00am - 12:00pm; once per month Position #2 Location: 523 SW 13th Ave Main responsibilities: Sort, organize, and distribute donated food to residents Time commitment: 1:00 - 2:30pm; once per month Weekly Gleaning - Wednesdays Position #1 Locations: 10 NW Broadway & 523 SW 13th Ave Main responsibilities: Transport multiple boxes of food from the senior center to the lobbies of Helen Swindells and Alder House Apartments Time commitment: 11:00am - 12:00pm; weekly on Wednesdays Position #2 Location: 101 N Morris St Main responsibilities: Transport 3-4 boxes of food from the senior center to the lobby of the Dawson Park Apartments Time commitment: 11:00am - 11:45am; weekly on Wednesdays Impact: With your time, skills, and commitment to combating food insecurity, we can continue making a meaningful and positive impact on the health and wellbeing of seniors and low-income residents in our community. Be a part of the Community for Positive Aging’s 4th Annual Summer Block Party! This delightful, family-friendly event is back and better than ever - and we need your help! From setting up tables and tents, to assisting with exciting event programs, volunteers play an integral role in the success of each block party. When: Saturday, June 28, 2025 | 11:00 am - 3:00 pm Volunteer shifts are typically 2-4 hours, starting at 8:30 am and ending around 5:00 pm. Volunteer roles will include: Morning set up Traffic signage set up Volunteer check-in CfPA info/outreach table ORVID ambassador Emergency preparedness activity assistant Outdoor floaters/wayfinders Volunteer break room attendant Photographer Event break down/clean up Impact: This beloved intergenerational community event brings Portlanders from all over the city together for a day of advocacy, education, good music, and a whole lot of summer fun!
