Kid Power is seeking new Advisory Board Members! Join a rapidly growing, financially stable, community organization that provides strength-based resources that inspires youth leadership, academic advancement, civic engagement, and physical and emotional wellness. Advisory Board Members are advocates for youth and programming in the greater Washington, DC area. With leadership central to all of our programs, Kid Power operates four interconnected programs that address the academic, social, and health needs facing DC youth. Our programs include comprehensive, innovative, evidence-based activities, and approaches that engage students, resulting in achieved academic proficiency and preparation for career and life. The role of the Advisory Board Members is to advance Kid Power’s mission by contributing and leveraging resources, promoting the organization, and supporting organizational growth. The ideal Advisory Board Member will: Act as a voice in the community to help steward Kid Power programs and resources Contribute and/or leverage resources for the organization Connect the organization to new opportunities and potential partnerships to advance programming that serve DC youth Support Kid Power’s growth through events and foster new activities and capacity-building projects

Kid Power, Inc. inspires youth leadership by promoting academic advancement, physical and emotional wellness, and positive civic engagement in underserved communities throughout the District of Columbia. We provide this support through our free afterschool enrichment program that offers homework help in addition to enrichment lessons focused on a range of topics from health and wellness to STEM. We are currently looking for highly motivated development and communications interns interested in nonprofit strategy and growth, marketing, philanthropy, and youth development. The Development and Communications Interns will be encouraged to participate in planning meetings and contribute their ideas to marketing and communications initiatives. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, detail-oriented, creative communicator, self-starter, and multi-tasker that can thrive in a fast-paced environment. RESPONSIBILITIES Create content to support development and communication needs, including social media and newsletters. Support individual and monthly donor communication, acknowledgments, and stewardship efforts. Organize and compile donor and prospect data in the organization database. Assist with research and outreach to prospective corporate partners, sponsors, and individuals. Assist with all special event planning that includes outreach for in-kind donations, auction items, and corporate sponsorship, as well as graphic design support for marketing. Attend Kid Power programming school sites weekly (remote or in-person). Research new sources of grant funding. General office administrative and other tasks as assigned. We are very flexible on the start and end dates, hours, and internship length. Please be clear in your cover letter about your availability. Virtual Opportunity
One-to-One community-based mentoring with DC students in grades 8-12. Our mentors empower youth to achieve their dreams and change their communities by supporting them in reaching academic, college, career and personal development goals. Youth need more connections and support during the pandemic as they navigate issues in the virtual world. The mentoring program is temporarily operating virtually during the ongoing pandemic and all requirements of the program are adapted to virtual or socially-distanced meetings. Mentors are required to live in the DC, MD, VA area for when in-person mentoring resumes. If you are interested in mentoring, take a look at the program expectations: Motivated! 1 year commitment 4-8 hours face-to-face time each month Weekly phone communication with protégé Communicate with staff monthly Mentor Requirements: At least 21 years of age High School Diploma or GED Time to commit to supporting a teen with academic, college, career and personal development goals. Intake requirements for Mentoring: Complete the Mentor Application Submit two references Interview Mentor Training (online module and live session) State/Local Background Screening Complete fingerprinting for FBI clearance Online Mandated Reporter Training Submit copies of driver’s license and care insurance (if applicable)

Kid Power's Summer Acceleration Academy is a four week summer camp aimed at curbing summer learning loss for rising 2-5th graders across DCPS schools. Kid Power volunteers will assist with afternoon enrichment activities such Civic Engagement, STEM, Art with a Purpose, KP Circles, and SEL Activities. Volunteers will also have an opportunity to help facilitate pool trips, local field trips and other exciting team building activities for our youth. The Summer Acceleration Academy will also be offered at Barnard and Garfield Elementary Schools.
