Mission Statement
PAWS Houston is a non-profit organization that helps sustain relationships between pet owners and their pets through a period of the owner’s terminal and/or chronic illness both in the hospital and at home. PAWS Houston has policies with Methodist, M.D. Anderson, Memorial Herman and other hospitals to allow patients to visit with their beloved companion in their hospital room. Additionally, PAWS Houston provides in-home client care that includes annual wellness visits, food, exercise, heartworm and flea preventative, emergency boarding and foster care.
Description
"Personal Pet Visitation Program"
This program provides patients that are critically ill (sometimes unlikely to leave the hospital) the opportunity to visit with their own pets in their hospital room. All patients excluding the bone marrow unit are eligible for a visit facilitated by a PAWS Houston Volunteer as long as the animal passes a special screening process.
Over 85% of the visits facilitated are to critical care areas in the hospital.
PAWS Houston has policies with all the major hospitals in the Texas Medical Center
Additionally, PAWS Houston provides in-home client care that includes annual wellness visits, food, exercise, heartworm and flea preventative, emergency boarding and foster care.
