The primary responsibility of the Budget for Baby(r) (B4B) Instructor is to present the B4B program to service members and their spouses seeking financial education in preparation for the arrival of a child. Budget for Baby(r) workshops provide a focused venue for active duty and retired service members and spouses to get detailed information on the various expenses associated with the addition of a newborn to the family along with recommendations and resources to help ease the financial strains of a growing family. Key Responsibility Present NMCRS B4B workshop in a variety of settings (in person and/or virtual) B4B Instructor Attributes Demonstrate proficient public speaking skills Ability to navigate a variety of video conferencing tools Present a professional, friendly, and objective appearance Maintain a nonjudgmental demeanor, objectivity, and confidentiality Identify with the NMCRS mission to enhance financial self sufficiency Serve as an NMCRS Ambassador Time Commitment 2-3 hours per workshop, including travel time to/from Naval Submarine Base New London One workshop per month - Flexible to work with your schedule. Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) Groton is looking for committed volunteers to work between 4 and 16 hours per week as financial caseworkers during our office hours. NMCRS Caseworkers work with our military members and their families assessing their financial needs, completing and analyzing personal budgets, developing spending plans, helping the client access resources, and assisting them with interest free loans, grants, and other Society resources. A caseworker is an ambassador and advocate for the client who works to help meet his/her immediate financial needs. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Analyze client requests for financial assistance Assist clients in creating a personal spending plan for their family Assist clients in accessing area resources and programs to help with needs Collaborate with staff members and experienced caseworkers to determine the best course of action for assistance Provide financial assistance within casework policies Maintain compassion, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times QUALIFICATIONS Commit to a minimum of (1) four hour per week Commit to the team for a minimum of 3 months Complete NMCRS Orientation and On the job training Basic computer skills to include knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook Ability to learn NMCRS software Ability to present a professional, friendly, and objective demeanor with clients Ability to actively listen and effectively communicate in English Be able to work with variety of client, volunteer, and staff personalities BENEFITS Build your resume Childcare and mileage reimbursed Learn how to interview active duty and retired military clients Learn the military pay system Gain knowledge of area resources dedicated to military families Opportunity to positively impact quality of life for NMCRS clients Preference given for those who already have military base access. Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) Groton is looking for committed volunteers to work our thrift shop located on Naval Submarine Base New London which is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm and Thursdays 10:00 am - 4:00pm (excluding holidays). Our Thrift Shop Volunteers are responsible for performing a variety of tasks to support our active duty and retired military families. RESPONSIBILITIES Collect, sort and price donated items Arrange items in the sales area Check clients out using an electronic payment system Maintain accurate sales records QUALIFICATIONS Commit to the team for a minimum of 3 months Complete NMCRS Orientation and Training Be able to work collaboratively with a variety of personalities, including clients and fellow volunteers BENEFITS No prior experience required; in-house training provided Childcare and mileage reimbursed Build your resume Gain retail experience Opportunity to have a positive impact on quality of life for NMCRS clients Preference given for those who already have military base access.
