Mission Statement
The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
Description
Every day, babies fight for their lives. And every day, the March of Dimes helps them win! March of Dimes lifesaving research means help for babies born prematurely or with birth defects and promises hope for prevention of these threats in the future. Volunteers speak out in Washington, D.C., and in every state capitol, to ensure adequate health care for mothers and babies. In local communites, March of Dimes NICU Family Support provides emotional suport and vital information to families across the nation who have a baby in neonatal intensive care. Our special website - shareyourstory.org - offers a place where families of premature or sick babies can find information and connect with others who understand the NICU experience
Moving forward, March of Dimes is focusing on:increasing awareness of the problem of prematurity and decreasing the rate of premature birth, expanding investments in research with the focus on prematurity and genetics, increasing the number of newborn screening tests required by states so that serious metabolic disorders can be diagnosed and treated early, working to reduce ethnic and racial disparities in birth outcomes. The March of Dimes faces the challenges ahead, encouraged by 70 years of achievements and success. Saving babies is the passion that drives us. We will not let up on our efforts until we reach the day we dream of - when every baby is born healthy.
