Mission Statement

Do you love the outdoors? Do you enjoy working with youths aged 8 - 17? Come join BiCO to make a difference in their lives!

Baltimore Inspiring Connection Outdoors- formally Baltimore Inner City Outings(BICO) was founded in 1999 with the goal of providing under-served Baltimore City youth with educational, enjoyable and safe outdoor experiences at no cost to them. As of 2015, BICO has provided outdoor experiences nearby to nature to over 6000 Baltimore City youth. We need your help though to continue.

Description

BICO is a Sierra Club outreach program opportunities for young students from the city and adults to explore, enjoy and protect the natural world. BICO encourages both its volunteer members and students to work together and plan fun trips. Our goal is to create a strong bond between the students and our natural world, helping them to become leaders in their schools. Each team is self-directed and chooses its own outings, so your voice will mean a lot.

BICO partners with four Baltimore organizations: Southwest Baltimore Charter School, Paul's Place, Mi Espacio and Digital Harbor High School in south Baltimore, At this point in time we are reviving a partnership with College Gardens Community Center in southwest Baltimore. BICO volunteers provide one outing per month to youngsters at each of these agencies.

BICO provides food on the outings and gear/transportation for the trip but most importantly volunteers like YOU to safely facilitate the outing.

Optionally, you can become a certified outing leader for BICO through the Sierra Club, which ensures that our programming can continue.

BICO is divided into 4 teams that work with students in different age ranges. You can attend a general meeting and decide which team is best for you or you can try outings with several teams. Each team has a monthly outing and its always been fun and the kids are great! Imagine going out for a fun day outside and doing good at the same time, I definitely recommend BICO.
