Mission Statement

MISSION
SheHeroes empowers girls to picture and pursue interests and future careers in STEM and other non-traditional careers. We do this by developing educational content and producing high quality video profiles of exceptional career women who have overcome obstacles and achieved success in male dominated fields. These inspiring online stories of glass-ceiling-shattering leadership reach thousands of 8 to 14-year-old girls - online, in school, and in after-school programs.

Description

SheHeroes produces high-quality online video biographies of successful career women and distributes these stories to thousands of diverse 8 to 14-year-old girls in the United States. Our videos support the healthy identity and career development of tween girls by exposing them to enriching stories of real, relatable women who reflect their experience and background. The impact of our virtual role models is multiplied through our companion discussion guides and our popular social network geared to empower parents, caretakers, and youth advocates to support girls.

Videos

SheHeroes produces 3 to 5 minute videos that:

  • Profile women in diverse careers that are traditionally thought to be for men.
  • Celebrate women as powerful leaders for their successes, character and contributions.
  • Give voice to a diverse group of career women who come from a number of racial, social and economic backgrounds.
  • Support school, youth development and enrichment program curricula with innovative, relevant content.

Educational Discussion Guides

Each video comes with an online discussion guide that supports subjects like math, science and social studies. The discussion guides also support the social and emotional development of youth. Geared for teachers, mentors, and parents to do with youth after viewing each video, these activities cultivate vital connections between youth and adults.

Workshops and Outreach

In 2017, SheHeroes will collaborate with California schools, community-based organizations and service providers to deliver workshops that run 50 to 90 minutes to school age youth. These workshops expand concepts of self and agency while exposing youth and educators to our online 'SheHeroes’ and discussion guides. The workshops build on the videos’ impact by further cultivating an understanding of and connection to diverse role models, women’s leadership and career development. In addition, participants learn how they can gather and document the stories of SheHeroes in their own lives and communities and submit those stories to the SheHeroes website.
