Mission Statement

Learn English Ministry, Inc.’s mission is to teach English to non-English speaking adults in order to eradicate the serious social issues that affect our students and thus adversely affect our community today, and for future generations.

Description

The Learn English Ministry, Inc., (LEM) began when Barbara Garaygordobil, an avid volunteer for many years, began to ask herself what more she could do to really make a difference in her community. On Christmas morning, 2007, she awoke with the answer. She knew her mission was to teach English to non-English speaking adults from all over the world.

LEM has grown exponentially since its inception and is now a dynamic and thriving non-profit volunteer-run organization. To date, LEM has recruited more than 3,100 volunteers, offered 300 FREE ESL classes per week at multiple locations, and registered more than 7,500 non-English speaking adults for these classes. Furthermore, LEM has more than 10,000 additional inquiries from interested adults, many from areas that we are currently unable to serve. Moreover, in 2010, U.S. Citizenship classes were added to the curriculum and now LEM boasts many new U.S. Citizens.
