Inflammatory Bowel Disease is an autoimmune disorder similar to HIV or Lupus that manifests only in the digestive tract. IBD is not contagious, IBD has a genetic component, IBD usually manifests in childhood; and over 1 million Americans struggle to live with this debilitating chronic illness. IBD is characterized by chronic inflammation, progressive ulceration of the digestive tissues, bleeding and breakage. It is managed with multiple drugs and sometimes surgeries. There is no known cure. We run support groups, a children's camp, educational conferences; we conduct grassroots and primary activism to allocate funding for research and we raise funding for IBD research.
