Mission Statement

Garden for the Environment is a 1/2 acre education and demonstration garden in the Inner Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco. Our mission since 1990 has been to teach sustainable gardening practices to San Francisco and Bay Area residents.

Description

Thanks so much for your interest in volunteering with GFE! We'd love to have you come by and get your hands dirty with us! Every Wednesday and Saturday of the year we host educational volunteer hours unless it's a holiday or otherwise indicated on our website. It's good practice to check our website before showing up because sometimes we are away at conferences or other garden-related events.

Our volunteer hours are on Wednesdays and Saturdays 10am - 3pm. You can show up for as long or as little as you wish! Be sure to bring clothes you don't mind getting dirty, closed-toe shoes, layers as it can swing from chilly to warm in a matter of moments, a hat, water bottle (we have potable tap water onsite) and sunscreen. Otherwise, we have all the tools you'll need as well as gloves!

We like to enjoy lunch together so if you plan to be around during lunch hours (12ish) feel free to bring a bag lunch. Often times someone is heading to a favorite lunch spot around 9th & Irving so no problem if you forget your lunch.

We look forward to meeting you and sharing the garden with you. More info at www.gardenfortheenvironment.org/volunteer.
