Since 1992, opening our doors & our hearts to helping those who are less fortunate, our mission has not wavered. Through partnerships with God and the people of our community, Habitat for Humanity of Athens/Limestone County AL is committed to the idea that everyone should have the opportunity to own a home of their own. As such, we are dedicated to eradicating poverty housing and substandard living. We build affordable, environmentally friendly homes with qualified families in need, giving them the opportunity to begin building financial independence and a stable home life for their children. We build foundations that strengthen family units creating many long-term assets that, in turn, benefit our community for generations.
Habitat for Humanity Athens/Limestone County AL keeps its mission thriving through volunteers and contributions. Volunteers work alongside Habitat Partner Families to build homes. We never "give away" homes. Habitat homeowners must put in "sweat equity" hours building their home and the homes of other Partner Families. Additionally, families must qualify under additional guidelines, including a credit and background check. Families must prove that they are able to repay their 25-30 year mortgage, that is 0% interest. We strive to build long-term solutions for our families with the vision that we doing our part to break the cycle of poverty. Our mission is a hand-up, not a hand-out and it promotes a healthy family life for the children of the families we serve. What we build has an effect on future generations.
