Mission Statement
The mission of the project is to create twenty new AmeriCorps*VISTA positions in Erie and Crawford Counties (in Pennsylvania), in an effort to assist low-income children, youth, and their families. The project focus is on children and youth, with a belief that if the VISTAs can connect these children with college student volunteers, both parties will benefit.
Description
AmeriCorps*VISTA is a federally funded program, through the Corporation for National and Community Service. The commitment is full-time for one year (can stay on longer, if you wish). VISTAs receive a monthly living allowance of approximately $730. Health insurance is provided. VISTAs may choose between an end-of-service Education award for $4,725, or a cash stipend of $1200. These positions are full time and do not permit part-time jobs on the side, or part-time/full-time schooling.
