Mission Statement
The NJ Watershed Ambassador Program is a joint effort between the NJ Department of Environmental Protection and AmeriCorps National Service Initiative.
Our goal is to increase public knowledge about what a watershed is, the sensitive ecosystems within it and then to engage people of all ages to take direct action to improve thier local water quality.
The program is hosted by the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association in Pennington, NJ.
Description
Ambassadors do visual and biological assessments of waterways across the state to monitor the health of stream ecosystems. We visit schools and universities to talk to students about stream ecology, non-point source pollution and ways they can make a difference in their community.
In addition, we empower volunteer groups and indivduals through training to do the same visual and biological assessments the NJDEP does to maintain stream health. We host various events to give citizens a chance to create positive change in their own neighborhood.
