Mission Statement

We are a nonprofit donor-supported organization dedicated to attacking cystic fibrosis from every angle. Our focus is to support the development of new drugs to fight the disease, improve the quality of life for those with CF, and ultimately to find a cure.

We are the South Carolina Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. We host fun events all year long throughout South Carolina to raise much needed funds to support our mission.

Volunteers are always needed and are the driving force behind our success. If you don't see an opportunity listed on here that is right for you - give us a call (or an email) and we are sure we will have something that fits your background.

Thank you for your support.

So what is cystic fibrosis?

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that:

  • clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and
  • obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.

In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.

Would you recommend Cystic Fibrosis Foundation-SC Chapter?

by Joshua S. from Albuquerque, NM (March 30, 2015)
It was a very well organized event. People were great, both bikers and other volunteers/officers that helped with the event. Fun environment and relaxed feeling. They provided catered food and live entertainment afterwards, which was great. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to volunteer.

At this event I met a lot of very caring and inspirational people and children with amazing stories and big hearts. Those involved in this organization are truly wonderful and passionately driven people!

I began volunteering with this organization back in 2010 and was proud to join the staff in 2012. It is an incredible organization with a dedicated and passionate staff and network of volunteers. The South Carolina Chapter has three staff members that cover the whole state of SC. They rely heavily on the support of volunteers to continue to be successful. I highly recommend joining a committee or giving your time at an event.
