Mission Statement

The Youth Leadership Project/Kids Shine are programs that are part of the Incacerated Mothers Program (IMP) with the Edwin Gould Services for Children and Families. The program's mission is to break the intergenerational cycle of incarceration, to bulid positive futures for the children of incarcerated mothers, to develop the skills, talents, and strengths of young people, and to have fun. These progrmas also work to foster emotional stability, life skills and media literacy through individualized/specialized workshops, a safe space to forge relationships to explore, exchange and engage in positive endeavors. In addition, the program cultivates the youths' interests while building career/higher learning motivation, reinforcing academic excellence, instilling critical soical awareness' and co-facilitating youth culture & community.

Description

Program Description youths are encouraged and challenged to: -engage in the expansion of their dreams which fuel and shape their realities -identify obstacles and fears related to their unique experiences and urban surroundings -create self-motivated objectives and projects that address individual and community needs -voice trheir opinions, concerns, needs and rights as members of society -be heard, seen, acknowledged and contribute to society in positive ways
