Mission Statement
Cascade Harvest Coalition builds healthy food and farm systems by cultivating common ground among farming and non-farming communities.
Helping HandsProgram is a partnership of small farms, emergency food programs, and community volunteers. The partnership's mission is to create a simple structure for donation of crops from small local farms to local food banks, to build a connection between local individuals and service organizations, local farmers, and local food banks, and to increase the financial sustainability of small local farmers, and local food banks.
Description
Helping Hands is a program of the Cascade Harvest Coalition in partnership with King, Pierce and Snohomish County small farms, emergency feeding programs (food banks and meals programs), farmers markets, and community volunteers.
We create partnerships that provide local farm fresh produce to emergency feeding programs through an exchange of community volunteer labor for harvested food.
We organize and facilitate:
- Harvest Work Parties that exchange the labor of community volunteers for a portion of the harvested food.
- On-farm Education that teaches the value and role of local agriculture in our economy and environment.
- Emergency Feeding Program Education that builds awareness of our community food assistance needs.
