Imagine a time in your life when you've experienced something very difficult, maybe even traumatic. We've all been told some form of "It's not that bad.", "Are you sure that's what happened?" , and "You just need to get over it!" ---It isn't a very good feeling. What if it could be different? It can be! In a culture that says: "What should s/he expect dressed like that?" "What was she doing out so late?" "He was asking for it." "They shouldn't have been drinking!" YOU can be the voice to help drown out the victim-blaming and shaming! Volunteers answer calls on our 24/7 crisis hotline, providing information, resources, and support to callers. Some survivors may need assistance navigating finding safe housing, while another may just need someone to listen. With training provided by Riverview Center staff, you'll learn the best ways to support survivors, valuable information on vital resources you can share with them, and ensure that you are taking care of yourself along the way. Riverview Center provides you with all of the tools you need to be successful in your role, with 24/7 support from staff should volunteers need assistance with a call. For more information, give us a call or apply today. We can't wait for you to join us!

According to the National Sexual Assault Hotline, every 68 seconds an American is sexually assaulted. Which means, on average, there are 463,634 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year in the United States. So what does volunteering in an office setting have to do with ending sexual violence? Well, without a clean, inviting, and organized office we wouldn't have the space for staff, volunteers, and clients to engage with each other in a safe environment. Without properly filed documents, critical time may be spent searching for them instead of with a survivor in a moment of crisis. Without hospital response folders prepared, an advocate dispatched to a call from a law enforcement agency would not have the tools needed to respond efficiently. Without acknowledgement letters to donors sent out in a timely fashion, we may lose out on critical support. Office volunteers are absolutely vital to Riverview Center being able to provide advocacy, therapy, and prevention services for our communities. Direct service isn't for everyone, and that's ok! Give us a call today or fill out the application to learn more about how you can become an office volunteer.
