Mission Statement

AFS has been leading international high school student exchange for more than 55 years as a worldwide, nonprofit organization. AFS-USA works toward a more just and peaceful world by providing international and intercultural learning experiences to individuals, families, schools, and communities through a global volunteer partnership.

Description

Invite the World Home Add an international branch to your family tree by hosting an AFS high school exchange student! More than 11,000 families host exchange students with AFS every year. These remarkable teens will arrive in late summer, eager to learn about our America. Hosting with AFS is a way for all kinds of families - married or single parents with or without children - to have an international experience without leaving home. We also have opportunities to be "Aunts" and "Uncles" for the students, as well as a wide range of volunteer positions, such as helping with community events, serving as liaisons for host families and students, or making high school presentations. Taking part in the AFS mission of improving international understanding is something American families can do for themselvers, their communities, and the world. For more information about hosting, please contact Becky Rutherford at Brutherford@cableone.net. AFS was founded by volunteer American Field Service ambulance drivers from World Wars I and II who believed, as AFS believes today, that the way to build a more just and peaceful world begins when people from different countries meet, learn about each other, and begin to understand each other.
